Sharks go on a low-human diet

Reports of shark attacks were down in 2008, says a study by an ichthyologist (remember this word; there will be a spelling test later) from the University of Florida.

The number shrank only from 71 to 59, so it could have just been that the sharks were trying to cut down on their bad cholesterol.

Anyway, Carolina Beach Today has the complete story and links to stories about every shark attack in the Carolina in 2008.

Jellyfish in the Ala Wai Canal

This month's influx of box jellyfish may be over, but you wouldn't know it by looking in the water in the Ala Wai Canal.

Actually, these are called "moon" jelly fish, a common sight in the Ala Wai.

On Monday, residents living nearby reported seeing hundreds floating near the water's surface.

"Moon" jelly fish, also known as "saucer" jelly fish live in brackish water with a low salt content.

These type of jelly fish are not poisionus because they don't carry a venom.
